Job Description

The Estimating Manager is focused on providing cost estimates to support procurement activities for professional services, construction, and operations and maintenance contracts. Additionally, they support cost estimating for the development of design and construction (capital costs) budgets and cost estimating support during planning and design phases of projects for design optimization and value engineering studies, life cycle cost analyses and risk assessments. This position will take a proactive leadership role in building a strong team and overall aspects of estimating functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with technical and management subject matter experts to prepare estimates and pricing data in accordance with company guidelines and philosophies
• Drive a step change in our estimating processes through data trend analysis of historical performance, current and potential future economic and commodity impacts to establish best practices and ensure our estimates and supporting methodologies and tools remain current/relevant
• Develop work load estimates, basis of estimates, pricing models, and pricing data and conduct pricing trades and analyses to optimize competitive bid pricing
• Integrate a variety of bid strategies to develop tailored rate structures for labor intensive bids
• Present cost estimates to company stakeholders and lead review discussions
• Develop price to win estimates for preliminary bid analyses and strategy
• Determine quantities and costs for conceptual project based on knowledge, experience and with correspondence with design/engineering firms
• Read and understand plans and specifications for major/complex projects Determine unique cost drivers related to constructability or bid ability based on knowledge
• Compiles a variety of operating, financial and statistical information as needed to respond to management requests
• Prepare and evaluate a thorough take-off of quantities for scope of work and completeness
• Conduct final analysis of finished product for overall accuracy and enhancing deliverables
• Researches and collects input from multiple internal and external resources
• Utilize the full capabilities of software packages to improve production, quality, accuracy and deliverables
• Understanding of subcontractor/supplier relationships to the ongoing success of Hensel Phelps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration or related field
• Minimum of Five (5) plus years’ experience in purchasing for professional services, construction, maintenance, operations contracts, and leadership and/or a combination of education and experience
• Valid driver’s license
• Communicate complex issues effectively in written format and oral presentation to clients
• Ability to function as part of a high-performance team
• Strong working knowledge of facilities operations and building systems
• Ability to work collaboratively in mobile work environment
• Read and understand plans and specifications for major/complex projects
• Understand multiple contract types and can analyze past program financial performance and project future performance while understanding assumptions, risks, and opportunities
• Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Project, Word, SharePoint)
• Strong project management skills
• Ability to recognize, troubleshoot, document, and optimize facilities processes
• Ability to read and interpret financial data relating to facilities
• Strong understanding of the critical facility environment, including hospitals, airports and data centers
• High level of understanding of multiple contract types Analyze past program financial performance and project future performance while understanding assumptions, risks, and opportunities.

Physical Requirements

Education
