Compensation Range (Southern California Only)

  • Salary Range: $60,990 - $67,410
  • Anticipated Cost of Living Adjustment:  $19,200.00 (COLA)
  • Total Compensation Range: $80,190 - $86,610 (Salary + COLA) 

Job Description

The Coordinator of Supplier Diversity is an entry-level, project-focused role responsible for supporting the implementation of supplier diversity initiatives on assigned project. This position assists the Manager of Supplier Diversity, project leadership, procurement, estimating, and field teams in executing small business inclusion, workforce development, community engagement, and trade partner enhancement strategies. The coordinator helps ensure project teams understand client requirements, engage qualified small and local businesses, monitor and report compliance, and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Construction: Support early engagement with potential clients, community partners, small business liaisons, small business trade partners, small business support organizations, workforce development organizations, stakeholders, and community leaders; assist with outreach coordination, meeting preparation, follow-up communication, and documentation of market intelligence.
  • Marketing / Business Development: Help promote Hensel Phelps and the Supplier Diversity program by preparing outreach materials, success stories, small business participation data, community engagement summaries, and event support materials for pursuits and relationship-building activities.
  • Market Assessment: Assist with identifying local business participation opportunities, workforce development needs, training resources, small business capacity gaps, and market trends; maintain information that helps project and regional teams understand available local small business capabilities and capacity.
  • Procurement / Project Pursuit: Support RFP reviews by helping identify small business participation, workforce development, community involvement, and outreach requirements; assist with proposal content, outreach summaries, small business participation plans, workforce development plans, and community involvement plans.
  • Small Business Trade Partner Evaluation: Gather and maintain information on small business capabilities, capacity, certifications, bonding, safety, quality, documentation readiness, and project experience for new and existing trade partners.
  • Estimating Engagement: Support estimating and procurement teams by reviewing solicitation lists, recommending qualified small businesses, tracking small business participation, reviewing small business responsiveness, assisting with bid room documentation, and supporting communication between Hensel Phelps and trade partners.
  • Operations: Assist project leadership with implementation of small business participation and workforce development strategies; support pre-award and post-award outreach events, small business interviews, scope reviews, purchasing meetings, and communication of project expectations.
  • Reporting: Track and report compliance as it relates to small business participation, workforce development status, outreach activity, training participation, and other project-level supplier diversity documentation for internal meetings, owner meetings, and stakeholder updates.
  • Workforce Development: Coordinate with Hensel Phelps staff, large business trade partners, workforce development organizations, training providers, apprenticeship programs, and candidates to support project workforce development commitments.
  • Programs and Trainings: Assist with internal and external supplier diversity trainings, including successfully working with small businesses, estimating training support, federal project training support, Technical Assistance Program (TAP), Emerging Trade Partner Program(ETPP), Head Start Bonding Program, and path to do business with Hensel Phelps activities.
  • Organizations: Support Hensel Phelps participation in national, regional, state, local, and private supplier diversity organizations by coordinating event logistics, maintaining contact lists, tracking memberships, and supporting follow-up with organization partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or business, marketing, public administration, communications, or related field 
  • 2+ years of experience and/or a combination of education and experience 
  • Significant progressive experience in supplier diversity, construction procurement, small business development, workforce development, community engagement, compliance, business development, or related leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead regional or multi-region strategy, manage cross-functional initiatives, and influence executive, operational, and project-level stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of construction project delivery, federal and client-specific subcontracting requirements, small business participation plans, workforce development commitments, outreach documentation, and compliance reporting.
  • Established credibility with clients, agency representatives, industry organizations, community leaders, small business support organizations, trade partners, and internal leadership.
  • Proven leadership in developing people, building teams, creating consistent processes, managing change, and translating enterprise strategy into project-level execution.
  • Excellent executive communication, presentation, facilitation, negotiation, writing, and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly across assigned regions or business units and participate in evening, weekend, or industry events as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • The person in this position regularly sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen.
  • Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.
  • Rarely exposed to high and low temperatures
  • Rarely exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in construction management or business, marketing, public administration, communications, or related field

Further, salaried employees (project engineers and above) also receive either a vehicle or vehicle allowance in accordance with Hensel Phelps’ policies. Based on position location, a cost of living adjustment (COLA) may also be included (subject to periodic review and adjustment).
